Representative Projects
New Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building
The church and school grounds are a focal point for many in the local Enchi community. Expansion of the current building was started and then abandoned many years before Monsignor Simon Assamoah’s arrival. To accommodate the growing needs of the parish community, it was Msgr Simon’s dream to resume construction of an approximately 5,000 square foot structure in the same location as the current building. Construction is now underway, employing many members of the community, and will be completed within a year.
Increase Public Access to Clean Water and Sanitation
Continuing efforts are being made to dig deep wells and add water towers, septic tanks and restroom facilities in the west side of Enchi. This work brings increased access to clean water and improved overall sanitation conditions. In January 2015, construction was started on a storage area to house items sent 40-foot container in November ’14. One item in the container, a commercial sprayer, is shared by the entire village of Enchi for mosquito control.
Small Business Development
Msgr Simon works to improve education and public health in Ghana. In addition, he is working with the community to develop small businesses. Funding has been made available in Bibiani to generate small business loans. Another example is a log splitter sent by container in 2014 to enable the local people to split logs for resale as firewood.
Fish Pond Construction
Two fish ponds were constructed in 2015 to provide the people of the village of Enchi with a renewable protein source. Fish are now being harvested from these ponds to feed the people of this area. The building of a third fish pond is planned for 2017.
